Commission Defined

In art, a commission is the hiring and payment for the creation of a work of art, often on behalf of another. This means that an artist is employed by an individual to create art for a specific purpose.

This kind of art is often done to specification. The artist is provided with a detailed description of what the patron desires. The artist’s role is then often interpretive, and using his artistic vision will process the required specifications into a personal work of art.

Specifications could include size requirements, the works ability to interact with its environment, or a personal symbolic connection.

Pricing

The cost for commissioned work is subjective and depends on many factors. For definitive answers, we ask that you establish a dialogue with us. Email consultations are available with no obligation.

Please include any thoughts, photographs, architect renderings, samples, swatches, or size and time requirements you may have to assist in determining the basis for the commission, the artist will follow up with additional questions or a proposal.

Your support of the arts, and interest in the work of WL Smith is greatly appreciated.
